Sometimes the insight gained in this initial assessment may provide you with enough help for the time being. The assesssment may also serve as a holding process during a time of crisis until on-going therapy can be arranged.
However, between us we may come to a joint decision that a further assessment session may be desirable, or an intervention of an alternative nature may be considered.
Brief counselling: is usually 6-12 weekly sessions of fifty minutes to help people to think with their therapist about their problems and consider new ways of tackling them. This is likely to involve a degree of both a psychodynamic and cognitive approach.
On-going counselling: is likely to be either once or twice weekly sessions of fifty minutes but is more in depth than brief counselling.
Psychotherapy: will be more in depth still, offering anything from once to four times weekly sessions, also of fifty minutes duration. This demands a degree of committment from both the therapist and client and may take place over a period of several years. It is often considered to be both a life changing and life enhancing experience.
